Woodwork Finishing in Galloway, NJ

Wood in Galloway lives in shade and moisture. Front doors under deep porch overhangs, cedar posts, rails and shutters all hold damp far longer than they would on an open island lot — and they fail from the joints and end grain outward.

  • Entry doors taken down and finished flat where possible
  • End grain, joints and door bottoms sealed before topcoats
  • Porch posts, rails and skirting refinished against ground moisture
  • Interior millwork enameled to a smooth, hard, wipeable finish

Entry doors, porch millwork, rails and built-ins refinished for Pinelands conditions.

Almost every failed exterior door we see in this township failed the same way: the bottom rail and the end grain were never sealed, water wicked in, and the finish lifted from underneath. Our door work starts by removing the slab where the schedule allows, finishing it flat so the coating levels instead of sagging, sealing every edge including the top and bottom, and resetting the hardware rather than cutting in around it.

Porch and deck woodwork gets the same logic applied at grade. Post bases wick moisture out of damp Pinelands soil, skirting stays wet after every rain, and rail caps hold standing water. We seal cut ends, coat undersides that most crews skip, and choose finishes for how wet that specific element actually gets.

Inside, the work is about feel as much as looks. Casings, doors and built-ins get sanded properly, filled, primed with a bonding primer where old oil is present, and finished with a waterborne enamel that cures hard enough to wipe down — not a wall paint brushed onto trim, which is the shortcut we most often find and undo.

What's Included

  • Doors removed and finished flat where the schedule allows
  • All end grain, joints and door bottoms sealed before topcoats
  • Post bases, skirting and rail caps detailed against standing water
  • Bonding primer over aged oil-based enamel indoors and out
  • Loose joints re-secured and filler feathered before sanding
  • Two enamel or stain coats with proper cure time between
  • Hardware removed and reset — never painted around

How the Project Runs

  1. 1Site visit. We check doors, posts and rails for wicking, open joints and unsealed end grain before pricing.
  2. 2Written scope. We price repair, sanding and finishing separately so you can see where the hours go.
  3. 3Repair and sand. Loose joints re-secured, filler feathered, profiles sanded back to clean shadow lines.
  4. 4Prime and seal. Bonding primer on the faces, sealer on end grain and joints before topcoats.
  5. 5Finish and cure. Two enamel or stain coats with proper cure time between, then a detail inspection.
