Cape May sits at the tip of the peninsula with water on three sides, so exteriors here take salt spray, near-constant wind and UV from angles that inland houses never see. Southern and western elevations chalk and fade years ahead of the rest of the house, and porch ceilings, railings and sills stay damp long after a storm passes.

That shapes how we build an exterior system. Washing comes first — salt film and mildew will defeat any premium paint if they're left on the substrate. Then failing coatings get scraped back to a sound edge, bare cedar and older wood trim get an appropriate primer, and every horizontal joint, sill and butt end gets caulked and sealed, because on this stretch of coast water intrusion, not sunlight, is what usually causes the first failure. Finish coats are acrylics rated for coastal UV and moisture, applied at proper film thickness rather than stretched thin.
